Determining what is an Eagle Scout Leadership Project and what is not can be a little tricky. The purpose of this requirement isn't to do community service, a Life Scout has done a lot of community service up to this point. The purpose is for the Life Scout to "...plan, develop, and show leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or [their] community." Planning and developing a service project is hard work and it is meant to be hard work. If you're the scout, take this challenge and meet it head-on. You will thank yourself, and those that supported and encouraged you, when you're an adult and looking back on your time in Scouting. If you're the parent of a Life Scout, let your Scout grow and learn through this experience. You will be ever prouder of them for doing this without you doing it for them. It's on their shoulders and it's their knowledge of scouting skills and leadership that are being tested. This article from Scouting Magazine's "Bryan on Scouting" blog will help you better understand the purpose of this requirement. If you have any questions, please contact our Life to Eagle Coordinator, David Stanway, at the address below.
